Elder Affairs to help seniors enroll for benefits

More than 10,000 low-income Florida elders — some of whom live in Levy County — who haven’t been able to apply online for food stamps will now be able to get personal help at an office location or via the Elder Helpline.
A pilot project funded by a $500,000 grant will help the Florida Department of Elder Affairs reach its goal of enrolling 5 percent of the eligible seniors, a total of 10,180 seniors who are eligible for food stamps but do not receive them.
