MORRISTON - A woman driving an SUV struck the back of a stopped school bus on U.S. 41 Tuesday morning. The driver was killed and a baby in her car was slightly injured. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Tiffany Poupard, 29, of Dunnellon, was northbound on U.S. 41 in Levy County just north of the Marion County line. She failed to stop for the school bus, which was stopped with its flashers and stop signals displayed, taking on students. Her 2004 Toyota Highlander collided with the rear of the school bus, running underneath the back of the bus. Poupard was pronounced dead at the scene. She was wearing a seat belt. The infant, Madelynn Poupard, 6 months old, was secured in an infant carrier and was not seriously injured. She was taken to Shands at UF for observation. Also hurt slightly was a student getting on the bus, according to the Levy County Sheriff’s Office. The accident occurred shortly after 7 a.m. on the northbound side. The bus was stopped at 7911 S.E. Highway 41, picking up two students. Involved were a total of 10 people. Five students were on the bus and two students were boarding the bus. Tracy Haley, the driver of the bus, was not injured. Levy County School Superintendent Bob Hastings was at the scene. He prepared extra counselors to be at the Williston schools involved.
