Douglas not on ballot for Marion County sheriff

Chiefland Police Chief Robert Douglas, who has been working as chief for the city since 2005, will not be running for sheriff of Marion County.
At a City of Chiefland Commission meeting Monday night, Douglas announced that he'd been asked to run for the position after Republican frontrunner Dan Kuhn resigned from the race after allegations of an affair with an Ocala woman. Douglas ran for Marion County sheriff in 2004, losing by just one percent of the vote. Although not sure he'd be placed on the ballot, he told Chiefland commissioners that being sheriff had been a lifelong dream.
Wednesday night, that dream, for the 2012 election, at least, was over. The Marion County Republican Executive Committee chose previous GOP runner up Chris Blair to be placed on the ballot. Blair, who has about 35 years experience in law enforcement, received 36 of the 56 REC members' votes. He'll be going against Bernie DeCastro, the Constitution Party candidate.
