BRONSON - The little town of Fanning Springs became the scene of a horrific double murder on Friday at about 9 p.m., according to information released from the Levy County Sheriff's Office.
Hugo Devalle, 28, and Elfego Cano, 34, both residents of the McDougal Mobile Home Park at 9210 N.W. 178 Lane died as the result of an ambush, LCSO spokesman Lt. Evan Sullivan said. Both men are from Guatemala.
Emergency help was called to the scene when it was reported that a vehicle had crashed inside the mobile home park and was on fire, Sullivan said. When deputies arrived, they found the two men in a burning Mitsubishi Mirage.
The driver, Devalle, was airlifted by ShandsCair helicopter after suffering from a gunshot wound and burns from the burning car. Mr. Devalle was later pronounced dead at Shands of the University of Florida, Sullivan said.
The passenger, Cano was pronounced dead at the scene. He also had sustained a gunshot wound and burns on his body, Sullivan said. Autopsies are scheduled for Dec. 26, Sullivan said.
