Deserved honors

-A A +A

Growing up in Levy County has provided me with many friendships and memories that have lasted through the years.
It was a great pleasure to see my good friends, H.C. Henderson and his late wife Faye, given much deserved recognition with Citizens of the Year and H.C. being named Alumni of the Year for the Levy County Schools Foundation.
Basketball in 1960 was blessed with many good players and teams in the county and debates about who was the best player, but those of us who played basketball were happy we never faced Faye on the court, as she could beat any of us in a one on one competition, she was the greatest.
I remember H.C., my senior year in high school, starting his career working for Mr. Rivers in his title company earning $1.00 per hour.
He started at the bottom in the title industry, hoed to the end of the row every day, and wound up owning the company.
In the years since I left Levy County, it has been a pleasure to maintain our friendship and see all the things H.C. and Faye gave to others to help the community.
I would further like to commend the Greater Chiefland Area Chamber of Commerce and the Levy County Schools Foundation for bestowing those honors on such a deserving couple, and to your newspaper for the wonderful article.

P.S. Always enjoy reading my Citizen each week. Thanks for keeping me up on the things from home.
