The Levy County Commission gave its blessing — with conditions — for the state to approve Progress Energy’s Site Certification application for a new nuclear plant.
The county is just one of many agencies participating in the process that is expected to lead to the construction of a new two-unit nuclear power plant near Inglis. Construction is expected to begin next year and continue through the startup of the second unit in 2017.
The commission’s approval, one of many the company must meet, came in its regular meeting Tuesday.
