County approves proposal for animal control program

-A A +A
By Sean Arnold

The Levy County Board of Commissioners last Tuesday approved a proposal by the Levy County Animal Services to start a low cost spay and neuter program for the pets of low income and retired Levy County residents.

In its request, LCAS argued that such a program would hopefully reduce the County’s pet overpopulation, making for fewer impoundments and euthanizations at the shelter.

The program would be available to pet owners who are older than 62 years of age or are of low income status, as determined by their receiving of government aid.

Prices for the services would be at the same rate tas those offered for pets that are adopted through the County. Those include $55 for dog spays for dogs up to 75 pounds and $40 for dog neuters. Cat spays would be $40, and cat neuters are listed at $25. The proposal also includes a $6 flea control service for pets weighing more than 25 pounds, and $3 for pets less than 25 pounds.
