I don't know what to make of this dispute. The records as well as many living memories from 1982-1983 suggest that both Ms. Jenkins and Mr. Dunn, though disagreeing with one another, are also both mistaken. On the one hand, extensive evidence shows that as late as 1910 or so a Masonic lodge for African Americans did exist at Rosewood, though it may have been in disuse by 1923--the community attacked in 1923 had sharply declined.
