Shrine Club breakfast

The Suwannee River Shrine Club will hold its semimonthly Country Breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the clubhouse on State Road 26, about a half mile north of Fanning Springs.

The menu includes sausage, eggs, bacon, sausage gravy, biscuits, pancakes and coffee for $5.50 per person. This event is open to the public.

    

Tuesday

Soil and Water District meeting

The Levy Soil and Water Conservation District Board will hold its regular monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. at the USDA Service Center, Bronson.

If a person decides to appeal any decision made by the board with respect to any matter considered at this meeting, he/she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he/she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.

Legion meeting

The American Legion Post 236 of Levy County will be holding its monthly meeting at 7 p.m.  The post is located at 9550 N.E. U.S. Highway 27A, just southeast of Bronson. For information, please call 352-486-5003. All veterans are welcome to attend.

The post is starting a Sons of the American Legion at this meeting. If you are a male descendant, adopted son or stepson of a member of the American Legion, or veteran that died in service during WWI, WWII, Korean War, the Vietman War, Lebanon, Grenada, Panama or the Persian Gulf War or subsequent to their honorable discharge, shall be eligible for membership in the Sons of The American Legion.  If interested please give us a call and we will get you signed up.  Under 21 years of age is $10 and over 21 is $30 per year.

Legion meeting

The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 236 of Levy County will be holding its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. The post is located at 9550 NE Hwy 27 Alt, just southeast of Bronson.  Phone number is 352-486-5003.  All ladies married to veterans (living or deceased) and daughters or granddaughters of veterans are welcome.

Chiefland High variety show

Chiefland High School Drama Club and Drama Class would like to invite you to the "All That Drama" variety show on Thursday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m.  Tickets are on sale for $3 and can be purchased at Capital City Bank, Drummond Community Bank and Bejeweled.  Proceeds are to benefit the Chiefland High School Drama Club.  For more information, contact Christina Smith at smithch@levy.k12.fl.us.  Come see what the drama is all about at Chiefland High School.

American Legion Jackpot Bingo

The American Legion of Levy County will be holding its weekly Jackpot Bingo at 7 p.m. Dinner will be served by the Auxiliary at 6 p.m. for $5. The post is located just southeast of Bronson at 9550 N.E. U.S. Highway 27A.

Legion to clean up Bronson cemeteries

The American Legion, Auxiliary and the Sons of The American Legion will be hosting a clean up at the Bronson cemeteries.

All members and their guests that would like to get involved please meet at 9 a.m. at the American Legion post. Lunch will be prepared and served by the Auxiliary for all volunteers.

Trenton Legion post holds meeting

The American Legion Auxilliary Post 91 in Trenton, located on Hwy 129 between Trenton & Bell (by the FFA Arena) will hold its next flea market on Saturday, Jan. 9, between 8 a.m. and noon.

Extra donations have been added - 70 plus, Louis L’Amour Westerns and other hard backs.

 Wanted: people to set their own booths outside.  Also, anyone wishing to donate items or money donations, please call 463-3901.  All funds go for Auxilliary programs.  This Christmas we have been able to send phone cards to our Service People overseas, and helped four Veterans' families in this area have a nicer holiday.  We thank Hitchcocks in Trenton for gift certificates.  Please help us with our programs in 2010.

Amvets hold fundraiser

The Amvets William Crow Post 447, 33 Risher Avenue, Inglis, will be having a fund-raising dinner. The menu will include dinner of meatloaf, scalloped potatoes, peas with onions and mushrooms,  roll, and dessert for a $7 donation.  The public is invited.

Bluegrass concert at Hardeetown Baptist

There will be a Bluegrass Gospel concert at Hardeetown Baptist Church featuring "Lou Reid and Carolina" at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 10.  The Band, consisting of Trevor Watson on banjo, Shannon Slaughter on guitar, Lou Reid on mandolin and his wife, Christy, on bass guitar, is from Union Grove, N.C.

The public is invited to attend and will hear a good message delivered in song with fantastic bluegrass picking and beautiful harmony.

Admission is free.  Hardeetown Baptist Church is located at 1716 N.W. 14th St., in Chiefland, along Hwy 341.

Have breakfast with superintendent

    Levy County Schools Foundation will host five "Breakfast with the Superintendent" events throughout Levy County giving residents in  each community an opportunity to meet with Superintendent Bob Hastings, increase awareness of the LCSF projects and serve as a foundation fundraiser.  A buffet-style breakfast will be followed by comments from Hastings and a question and answer session. Tickets will be sold in advance of the Superintendent Breakfast in Bronson, Cedar Key, Chiefland, Williston and Yankeetown.

    The first Breakfast with the Superintendent will be 7:30 a.m. at the Williston Woman's Club on State Road 121, just outside of Williston.  Tickets are $10 per person and are available at Capital City Bank and Perkins State Bank main branch in Williston, or at the Levy County Schools Foundation office in Bronson.  For more information, call 352-486-3408 or email lcsf@levy.k12.fl.us

Stories of Florida at library

    Enjoy a multicultural journey of imagination as award-winning storyteller, Carrie Sue Ayver,  presents “Stories of Florida- Con Sabor!” at 2 p.m. Jan. 18 at the Knott’s Public Library,  Eleven 56th Street, in Yankeetown. This free  program is sponsored by the Florida Humanities Council and the Friends of the Library.  The public is invited.
