Hoggetowne Medieval Faire
Actors, singers, dancers and stage combatants are needed for the 2012 Hoggetowne Medieval Faire Living Chessboard and cast of characters.  Auditions are 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. in the Hippodrome Theater Cinema. Stage combat training will be provided for those interested. The Hoggetowne Medieval Faire will be  at the Alachua County Fairgrounds on Jan. 28-29 & Feb. 3-5, 2012.

Free dance lessons
There will be a free evening of fun, friendship and an introduction to square dancing on Tuesdays, Sept.13, 20 and 27 at 7 p.m. at the Carpenters' Union Hall, 1910 NW 53 Ave., Gainesville. No experience necessary.

Sept. 15

Authors, Authors!
Calling All Levy County authors. Please call to be a participant in the friends of the Williston Public Library "Authors, Authors!" program Thursday, Sept. 15 from 7-9 p.m.
Sponsored by both the Williston Womans Club Education Committee and "Friends" this type of program was a great success several years ago. Many more authors have emerged in the area and quite a few have called to sign up. We will know more next week. Each author is asked to bring a sampling of his/her writing to read, and the authors are welcome to bring books to autograph and sell after the program.
Refreshments will be available to buy from the school safety club. As with all program from "Friends" there is no charge for the event. For more informaton, contact Mary McDaniell at 352-528-5972.

Citrus Library book sale
The Friends of the Citrus County Library Fall Book Sale will take place Sept 16-20 at the Citrus County Auditorium, Hwy. 41 South, next to the Fairgrounds. Sale hours are Friday  5-8 p.m. $5 donation; Saturday 9 a.m.- 4 p.m.; Sunday 1 p.m.- 4 p.m.; Monday 10 a.m. - 7 p.m. (half-price day); and Tuesday 10 a.m.- 3 p.m. ($3 a bag).

Sept. 17

'Hutch' Hutchinson's Legacy Poker Run
 The first "Hutch" Hutchinson Poker Run will fire up its engine — rain or shine —  in Chiefland. The start will be at Custom Accessories, 7631 N.W. 150th Lane. Registration will be from 9-10 a.m. There will be a $10 donation per bike and $5 for the poker hand. Proceeds will benefit surrounding area Toys for Tots programs.
  Stops  will be at Chiefland Liquor & Tobacco, McKenzie's Four Corners, Rocky's Place, The Brick Grill and BubbaQue's.
  Entertainment is being provided by Beyer Auto Salvage and will be by Cray Production & Sound. The best hand wins a "Tail of the Dragon" package that includes a three-night stay at The Two-Wheel Inn in North Carolina, a $50 VISA gas/gift card and a photo of the winner on The Dragon by KillBoy.com. The best hand prize was donated by Erwin Insurance Agency of Chiefland.
   Riders also can enter their rides in the customized bike show for a $5 donation.
  There will be a 50/50 raffle for $10. Must be present to win. Price of raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5. There also will be a BBQ chicken or pork dinner for $10 at BubbaQue's. Proceeds from food and drink sales will be donated to Hutch's Masonic Lodge No. 51.

Health & Fitness Expo
The Business Women's Alliance of the Citrus County Chamber of Commerce is hosting the original Women's Health & Fitness Expo from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the National Guard Armory in Crystal River. Preregister your firm before June 17 and choose preferred exhibit space. The 2nd Annual Levy County Schools Foundation Beast Feast will begin at 5:30 p.m. at Black Prong Equestrian Center in Bronson.

Classic car show in Chiefland
The Tri-County CFGC presents the Chiefland Flea Market Classic Car Show from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration is from 9 a.m. to noon, with awards scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Classics, late models and motorcycles are welcome with separate judging for the top 20 in each category. There will be dash plaques to the first 50 vehicles and music by DJ Jeff. A portion of the proceeds will benefit local veterans' organization.

Classic car show in Fanning Springs
The Tri-County CFGC and the Fanning Springs Chamber of Commerce present the 16th annual Festival of Lights at Fort Fanning Park. Registration is from 9-noon, with awards beginning at 3 p.m. Classics, late models and imports welcome. Dash plaques to the first 50 vehicles. There will be food and drinks as well as music by DJ Jeff. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Toys for Tots.

Senior Citizen Center activities
Chiefland Senior Center, 305 S.W. 1st St., behind the Deer Camp Store on South Main Street.  Activities are free.

Walking club

AMVETS Post 88 meets the second Thursday of each month at 6 p.m. The SOA meets the second Tuesday of each month at 7 p.m. The Auxiliary meets the third Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. The meetings are at the post home.

Busy Bees meetings
Busy Bees meet at Old Town United Methodist Church on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month from 1-3 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. There will be crafting, quilting, crocheting, knitting and all kinds of needle and handwork. There are different materials to share if you would like to learn. Busy Bees donates hats, lap robes and other items made to organizations and those in need. Novices are welcome, as well as, experienced crafters. Bring your crafts, needles, yarn, patterns, ideas and questions. Open to all, no age or gender restrictions. Dixie Horseman Association
The Dixie Horseman Association wants to remind all members and potential members that the Club Roping and Game Days are always on the third Friday and Saturday of each month.  Sign-ups begin at 7 p.m. and the roping starts at 8 p.m. This is a Round Robin format with a ropers cap of No. 5. Cash payouts are awarded. The arena is on the Airport Road in Cross City. All ropers and riders must be club members. Memberships are available at all events.
