Tourist Council Meeting
The Levy County Tourist Development Council will meet Thursday, Jan. 31 at 6 p.m. at the Visitors Bureau Office, 620 N. Hathaway Ave., Bronson.

Central Florida Community College will celebrate its 50th anniversary homecoming on Friday, Feb. 1.
The celebration begins at 6 p.m. beside the softball field on the CFCC Ocala Campus, 3001 S.W. College Road. Alumni and their families are invited to the event, which will include a bon fire, barbecue and fireworks. There is no charge to attend.

It's that time of year to travel to Italy, Woman's Club style, for the annual spaghetti dinner. As usual the sauce is made from the old family recipe of the Woman's Club "sisters." The pasta is cooked to al dente perfection. The salad ingredients are fresh from the garden and tossed with love. The coffee and tea is brewed with precision. And the desserts will have you yelling, "Mama Mia!"
Dinner will be served in Little Italy, better known as the Cedar Key Civic Center, formerly the Lions Club, on Saturday, Feb. 2, from 5 until 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at Curmudgeonalia on 2nd Street, at the door, or from Cedar Key Woman's Club members.
The Woman's Club works with various community groups and raises money for local projects, such as the Cedar Key School scholarship fund and "Support our Troops."
The Suwannee River Shrine Club will hold its semi-monthly country breakfast Feb. 2 from 7-10:30 a.m. at the clubhouse on Highway 26, about a half mile north of Fanning Springs.
The menu includes sausage, eggs, bacon, biscuits, sausage gravy, grits, pancakes, coffee and orange juice for $5 per person.
A craft sale will also take place.
Otter Springs RV Resort will host bluegrass music Saturday, Feb. 2, beginning at 6 p.m.
The music will take place inside the lodge.

.Divorced Parents Class
The Levy Center of Central Florida Community College will offer Parent Education and Stabilization training on Saturday, Feb. 2.
The course is required by state law for divorcing parents who have children in the home.
The class will meet from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Levy Center, 114 Rodgers Blvd. in Chiefland. The training covers legal issues, emotional issues for parents and children, family relationships, financial responsibility to the child, and issues regarding spousal or child abuse.
The fee is $34 and must be paid at the time of registration. The deadline for enrollment is noon on Thursday, Jan. 31. You must provide case number and judge's name at registration.

The Cedar Key Star Party is set for Saturday, Feb. 2-9.
Astronomers and star gazers will view the heavens from the city park Monday-Friday from 9:30-10:30 a.m.
An astronomy slide show and night stargazing will take place at the Cedar Key State Museum Tuesday and Friday from 7-10 p.m.
Nature and binocular stargazing will take place at the Cedar Key Scrub Reserve Wednesday (Thursday if it's too cloudy) at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Hayrides will be available. For reservations, call 543-5567.

The February meeting of AARP will be Tuesday, Feb 5. at 10:30 a.m. at St. Albans church, located four miles north of Chiefland on the east side of Hwy. 19.
Lunch follows the meeting. The club provides coffee and the meat. Visitors and guests are asked to bring a covered dish and your place setting. Come and bring a friend.

Weight Management Workshop
Over 60 percent of people in Levy County are overweight or obese. Are you tired of carrying all that extra weight around? Tired of all those crazy diets?
The Levy County Health Department is conducting a two-part workshop on weight management on Tuesday, Feb. 19 and 26 at the Levy County Extension Office located at 25 N. Hathaway (27A) in Bronson.
Participants will learn how to count calories and determine portion sizes, plan and prepare healthy meals, create exercise programs and other skills. This class is designed for people who want to get healthy and lose weight but need assistance and support.

Peanut Producers Meeting
The 33rd Annual membership meeting of the Florida Peanut Producers Association will meet Thursday, Feb. 21 at the Jackson County Agriculture Conference Center, 2741 Penn Ave., Marianna.
Registration begins at 6:30 p.m. (CST) and is followed by the traditional smoked steak dinner.

The Humane Society of Levy County, Inc. will host the "Bark-N-Purr" Charity Concert - BBQ Cook-Off and More. Saturday, Feb. 23 at the Bronson Youth League, 220 Picnic St., Bronson..
Some of the events scheduled include a sanctioned barbecue cookoff with the Florida BBQ Association and the Disconnected K-9's performance.
The Humane Society of United States will have its specialized Rescue Rig, a tractor trailer, outfitted for disasters.
A silent auction will be held featuring autographed NASCAR memorabilia, a cat tree, quilts and many more items.

Wild Hog Canoe Race
The 31st Annual Wild Hog Canoe and Kayak Race will be April 26.
The event is hosted by AMVETS Post 88, Bronson, and the Levy Association for Retarded Citizens.
The Fraternal Military Association of the USA will tour the Normandy Invasion beaches, London, Bastogne, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris and more departing from New York June 17.
Current, past military personnel, dependents, friends and others are invited to participate in this journey to commemorate the 64th anniversary of D-Day June 6, 1944.

The first Monday of each month is the Nature Walk at the Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge.

Free Tax Aide Preparation and E-file with AARP Tax-Aide begins Feb. 1.
Sites will be open at libraries in Trenton (Monday 1-5 p.m.), Cross City (Tuesday noon-3 p.m.), Williston (Thursday noon-3 p.m.) and Chiefland (Friday noon-4 p.m., Saturday 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.) throughout the tax season.
Tax-Aide serves taxpayers of all ages with special emphasis on those age 60 and older. Guidelines for Tax-Aide are posted at area libraries.
