Holiday Duet marries chopper,

color red with seasonal music

Actors singing traditional songs of the season, admission to the “Art of the Chopper” and “Red” exhibitions, and tasty holiday treats are all included in the Holiday Duet program offered by the Ocala Civic Theatre and Appleton Museum of Art of Central Florida Community College.

Admission is $18 per person and tickets are available at the Appleton Museum, Ocala Civic Theatre and online at www.AppletonMuseum.or, and www.ocalacivictheatre.com.

Holiday Duet features the Ocala Civic Theatre’s leading actors in a 90-minute musical program of holiday melodies. Show times are Thursday and Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

In addition to the music and the admission to the exhibitions, guests will enjoy holiday treats and coffee. Doors open at 5 p.m. on Thurday and Friday, 10 a.m. on Saturday and noon on Sunday.

The Appleton’s “Art of the Chopper” exhibition is a collection of 30 one-of-a-kind motorcycles designed and built as contemporary art, and “Red” is a thematic display of art and artifacts from the museum’s collection that highlights the meaning of the color red from cultures around the world.

 General admission to the Appleton is $6 for adults; $4 for seniors 55 or better and students 19 and over; $3 for youths ages 10-18; and free for members, CFCC students, children age 9 and under, and active military personnel and their immediate families.

A special fee is required for admission to the “Art of the Chopper” exhibition. The museum is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays, noon to 5 p.m. on Sundays and closed on Mondays.


American Legion Christmas dinner

Post 91 of the American Legion will hold a Christmas dinner and membership meeting starting at 5:30 p.m. Cost of dinner will be at least $5 worth of food items to be donated to the Trenton Food Bank and shared with the Sheriff's food collection efforts.

Dinner will consist of ham, mashed potatoes, candied yams, salad, veggies, rolls and tea or coffee. Members are asked to bring a covered dish or a dessert to share. We'll hold a gift exchange and if you want to participate, please bring a present costing not more than $10.

The  gift exchange is a lot of fun. The Legion buckle will be raffled at this date. Come and join the Legion in the celebration of this season. Bring your wife and family and a friend.


Dinner, bingo at Legion in Bronson

American Legion Post 236 of Levy County will hold their weekly Jackpot Bingo at 7 p.m. with dinner served at 6 p.m. The Post is located at 9550 N.E. U.S. Highway 27A,  just southeast of Bronson.

Shrine Club breakfast, turkey shoot

The Suwannee River Shrine Club will hold its semimonthly country breakfast from 7 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the clubhouse on State Road 26, about a half mile north of Fanning Springs.

The menu includes sausage, eggs, bacon, sausage gravy, biscuits, pancakes and coffee for $5.50 per person. This event is open to the public.

There is also a turkey shoot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. by the clubhouse; $3 per shot, shells furnished.

SHARE distribution for December    

 Distribution for SHARE Florida will be held from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. at First United Methodist Church in Chiefland.

Santa arrives at Otter Springs

Santa and one of his elves will arrive at Otter Springs. They will be greeting visitors from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and showing off the park lights and decorations.  Get your picture taken with Santa and his elf and enjoy a cookie and a drink.

Entry to the park is free and so is the photo with Santa.

American Legion Sons plans Fun Day

The Sons of the American Legion are planning a Fun Day that includes a chili cook-off, cake and sweet auction, karaoke with singing and dancing, and hamburgers and hot dogs beginning at 2 p.m.

Bring your chili at 1:30 p.m. with judging at 2 p.m. The entry fee is a $5 donation to the Legion and a $2 donation to the Legion per bowl for dining.


Levy 4-H benefit turkey shoot

There will be a Benefit Turkey Shoot to raise money for the Levy County 4-H Livestock Judging Team from 9 a.m. to noon at the Levy County Extension Office in Bronson.

The cost is $3 per round or $25 for all 10 rounds. Sign-up begins at 8 a.m. Concessions will be available on the grounds.

Holiday extravaganza at Lighthouse Word

The Lighthouse Word Church will be hosting a Christmas holiday extravaganza titled, "It's Christmas Time" with the international singing group, Shekinah Glory, on Saturday, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m.  The performance will be a mixture of Christmas and traditional holiday music and drama.  Appetizers and holiday baked goods will be served after the performance.

 Also, Shekinah Glory will be ministering at the Lighthouse Word Church on Sunday, Dec. 20, at 10:30 a.m.  The church is located three miles east of Chiefland on U.S. Highway 27A.  Call 493-1554 for more information.


“Christmas is Coming” cantata

 at Old Town and Chiefland

The combined choirs of the Old Town and Chiefland United Methodist Churches will present “Christmas is Coming” in two performances.  

The first presentation will be on Saturday at the Old Town United Methodist Church at 7 p.m.  

The second performance will be at the Chiefland United Methodist Church on Sunday at 4 p.m.  All are welcome to come and enjoy the performances.

December 28

State park to host moonlight paddle

Manatee Springs State Park will host a moonlight paddle event on Monday, Dec. 28, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m.

The moonlight paddle will be a guided canoe/kayak tour on the Suwannee River. Participants will learn about the history of the river while enjoying the beautiful scenery by moonlight. The park’s Citizen Support Organization will provide a short program following the moonlight paddle. Light refreshments will be served.

Participants should dress appropriately for weather, and bring drinking water and a flashlight. For safety reasons, please leave very young children and pets at home. Participants can bring personal safety equipment and a canoe/kayak or make a reservation with Suwannee Guides and Outfitter for $10 by calling (352) 542-8331. This program is free with regular entrance park fees and is weather permitting.

Legion meeting

The American Legion Post 236 of Levy County will be holding its monthly meeting at 7 p.m.  The post is located at 9550 N.E. U.S. Highway 27A, just southeast of Bronson. For information, please call 352-486-5003. All veterans are welcome to attend.

The post is starting a Sons of the American Legion at this meeting. If you are a male descendant, adopted son or stepson of a member of the American Legion, or if veteran that died in service during WWI, WWII, Korean War, the Vietman War, Lebanon, Grenade, Panama or the Persian Gulf War or subsequent to their honorable discharge shall be eligible for membership in the Sons of The American Legion.  If interested please give us a call and we will get you signed up.  Under 21 years of age is $10 and over 21 is $30 per year.

The American Legion, Auxiliary and the Sons of The American Legion will be hosting a clean up at the Bronson Cemeteries.
