Poetry Meeting

Food Fest

The Bronson FFA Alumni will hold their Sixth Annual Food Fest fund-raiser Friday, Feb. 29 at the Levy County Extension 4-H Pavilion, on US 27 north of Bronson.

Entertainment starts at 5 p.m. and dinner will be served at 5:30 p.m.

A sampling of local favorites will be prepared and served by alumni members and friends of the FFA.

Tickets are $15 at the gate or $10 in advance.

Bluegrass Pickin'

Otter Springs RV Resort will host its bluegrass pickin' Saturday March 1 beginning at 6 p.m. in the resort's lodge.

Pesticide Training

The Levy County Extension Office will offer a pesticide training class Saturday, March 1 beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Agricultural Center in Bronson. Attendance at the meeting will qualify attendees for one core CEW and one private applicator CEW toward renewal of a Restricted Use Pesticide license.

Those who want to renew their RUP license via testing or want to obtain a RUP will have the opportunity to take the test during the session that begins at 9:45 a.m.

Friends Book Sale

The Friends of the Luther Callaway Public Library will hold a book sale on Saturday, March 1 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the front lawn of the Luther Callaway Public Library located at 104 NE 3rd Street in Chiefland. The sale will be moved indoors if the weather does not cooperate.

The Friends have a variety of used books for sale which include popular authors, science fiction, romance, westerns and fantasy. Non-fiction includes spiritual, self-help, hobbies and cook books. We will also have children's books, audio tapes and videos for sale.

AARP Meeting

AARP-Chiefland's next meeting is March 4 at 10:30 a.m. at St.Alban's Church, located four miles north of Chiefland and west of Hwy. 19. The meeting will be held first and then members and guests will have lunch. Coffee and meat are provided. Bring a covered dish and your place service.

Grief Support Group

Haven Hospice offers a six-week grief support group. Members can express their feelings and thoughts and gain an understanding of grief and how it impacts their lives. You must register to attend.

Conservation Board Meeting

The Levy Soil and Water Conservation District Board will hold their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday, March 4 at 6:30 p.m. at the USDA Service Center in Bronson.

The Fanning Springs Garden Festival will be held Saturday, March 15 at Fanning Springs State Park, off U.S. 19.

Normandy Reunion

The Fraternal Military Association of the USA will tour the Normandy Invasion beaches, London, Bastogne, Brussels, Amsterdam, Paris and more departing from New York June 17.

Bandsmen Needed

Brass/woodwind musicians are wanted for a future non-profit community band or ensemble that will play in the tri-county area. You must have your own instrument and a minimum of two years playing experience.

Nature Walks

The first Monday of each month is the Nature Walk at the Lower Suwannee Wildlife Refuge.

The walk starts at 9 a.m. at Refuge Headquarters. These walks will go on each month through May. For information call Joan Stephens 352-463-1095.

Tax-Aide

Free Tax Aide Preparation and E-file with AARP Tax-Aide began Feb. 1.

Sites will be open at libraries in Trenton (Monday 1-5 p.m.), Cross City (Tuesday noon-3 p.m.), Williston (Thursday noon-3 p.m.) and Chiefland (Friday noon-4 p.m., Saturday 10:30 a.m.-2 p.m.) throughout the tax season.

Tax-Aide serves taxpayers of all ages with special emphasis on those age 60 and older. Guidelines for Tax-Aide are posted at area libraries.
