BRONSON –The School Board of Levy County gave its blessings for the City of Chiefland to annex a 3 1/2-acre lot located at U.S. 129 and C.R. 321 at its Oct. 9 meeting.
The lot is used by Future Farmers of America for agricultural purposes. The change of designation from county to city will not affect the tax base on the land.
Chiefland requested to annex the land to make it contiguous to another large parcel north of there off 321. That 110-acre parcel, which is also currently agricultural, is up for petition at City Council in the near future.
City manager Grady Hartzog said that the owner wanted to also be annexed to the city.
In other news at the Oct. 9 meeting, school official Jeff Edison was happy to report that a number of Levy principals are participating in the North East Florida Education Consortium's Principal Leadership Academy.
The PLA provides a competency based, tiered approach to leadership training and continued professional development.
Not only are current Levy administrators a part of the program, but aspiring as well.
Levy participation has been impressive, according to Edison.
