n Liberty Counsel challenges Bible distribution ban

Special to the Citizen

Liberty Counsel has filed a lawsuit to overturn a recent ban on distributing Bibles on the public school campuses of Collier County.

In the past the Collier County School Board allowed World Changers to distribute free Bibles to students during off-school hours on Religious Freedom Day, but school officials have stopped the practice.

The Collier County School District policy specifically allows the distribution of literature by nonprofit organizations, but only with the approval of the superintendent and the Community Request Committee, whose members are appointed by the superintendent.

n New Pastor

St. John Missionary Baptist Church of Chiefland is pleased to announce that we have a new pastor. Rev. Jose R. Cuevas is our new pastor-teacher. He is married with two children, a family man who seeks to live his life and guide his family under the principals of the Word of God. He is coming to us with 19 years of ministry experience. God has blessed him to serve as Pastor for eight years, Assistant Pastor, Interim Pastor and Youth Pastor, before joining us. His humble service to the Lord and to the children of God has been the underpinning of his ministry. We are excited at the prospects of what God has planned for our growing congregation, and the community at large. Rev. Cuevas has served as the Bible Expositor for the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Association for the past three years and the Regional Area Coordinator for the Florida General Baptist Convention, Department of Foreign Missions.

Our services continue to be as follows: Sunday school 10 a.m. and morning Worship 11 a.m. every Sunday. Baptist Training Union every first and third Sunday at 2 p.m. Our exciting, enriching, and extraordinary Bible Study is held every Wednesday at 7:3;0 p.m. We have a Men’s fellowship breakfast on the 4th Saturday of each month followed by Deacons and Ministers Class. Pastor Cuevas can be reached at 352-493-7100.
