Soccer to a 4 or 5 year old should be fun. Coaches should remember their age when introducing the game to them. Parents should remember that it is only a game and a time of fun for their little ones.
My 5-year-old grandson is playing soccer for the first time this year. Unfortunately, the coach he had would show up late or not at all for practices.
Wanting this to be a fun time for my grandson, my son took over the coaching job. He looked online for various ways to teach the kids the sport and make it fun. He would take money out of his own pocket to bring snacks for the kids. All of this he would do after working an all-night shift.
The parents expressed their happiness with the way he was handling things.
However, the coach did show up at some point, and my grandson came home in tears because this person was now going to be coaching again.
All of this is losing sight of what the kids were there for in the beginning: fun.
