Though no official vote was taken, Chiefland commissioners passed Monday night on implementing an option to a state agency’s water shortage order that would have reduced offenses from a 2nd degree misdemeanor to that of a civil infraction.
Suwannee River Water Management District representative Steve Minnis told the commission that because of drought conditions, the district has put into effect a phase 3 water shortage ordinance, which for city residents means they will have to curtail water use for things such as landscape irrigation.
