The accident occurred about 5.3 miles north of the town of Suwannee on CR 349 at about 11:30 p.m. Friday. The two separate crashes sent both vehicles onto the grassy shoulder, but Dewees' vehicle took a hit that went into the driver compartment, split the vehicle and ejected Dewees. Kirkland continued to drive south until his pickup overturned with its wheels partially upon the east grass shoulder.
