Unable to overcome a late touchdown, the Chiefland High School varsity football team fell 12-6 to Union County in the teams' game in Lake Butler Friday night.
Union County quarterback Chandler Mann threw a 22-yard touchdown pass to Dylan Clark with less than four mintues left in the game, giving the Tigers (4-0, 1-0 District 1A-7) a 12-6 lead. Chiefland (3-1, 0-1) went 4-and-out on its ensuing possesion, giving the ball back to Union County, which ran out the clock to end the game.
The Indians played four quarters of tight football with the No. 1 team in class 1A. After losing to the Tigers 42-0 at home last season, the Indians, off to the team’s best start in years, was dissapointed in this season’s loss.
“Before the game, win or lose, we said this game wasn’t going to determine our season,” said Chiefland head coach Aaron Richardson.
The Indians had tied the game at six earlier in the fourth quarter after a ferocious run by Alphonso Timmons inside the red zone. Facing fourth-and-one at the 14, Timmons plowed through the Tigers' line and into the end zone.
