Chiefland’s Women’s Golf Association returns

-A A +A

On Sept. 8, our group was host to players from seven courses to play in our "Gator Golf" competition.  The University of Florida sent seven players. Quail Heights sent seven. Williston Golf Course sent two, and Haile Plantation sent two, Gainesville Country Club had two players, and Lake City Country Club sent four players. Chiefland Golf Association had 18 of our own ladies competing.

Dot Bird, of the UF course, won first low gross in the First Flight. Our own Linda Buchanan took second low net in this flight. Freida Martin, of Chiefland, took third low net in the Third Flight. Bettye Dickens, of Chiefland, took low gross in the Fourth Flight, and Denise Boyle, of Chiefland, took third low net in this flight.

After play, we had a great luncheon and awarded all the prizes. In October, we will all go to Lake City to play in their "Gator Golf" outing. This same competition has been held at these seven courses for many years.

On Sept. 15, our group held their first playday of the new season. We played a game called "OSEN", where only the nine holes that start with these initials counted, then deducting one half handicap.

We had 18 players playing in this competition. Babs Powell won first place in the First Flight with a net 37 score. Linda Waddelow took first place in the Third Flight with a net score of 38. We had more winners in the Second Flight because the majority of our members were in the handicap range from 20 to 30. First place was won by Sandy Reed with a net score of 36. Carol Healy and Betty Tillis both came in with a net score of 38 to tie for the second spot. Adrienne Snyder and Connie Galpin tied for third place with scores of net 40.

We are proud to welcome as new members, Sandy Reed and Adrienne Snyder, and also a "welcome back" to Barbara Currence. We had six ladies split the "chip-in" prize. They were Freida Martin, Carol Healy with two chip-ins, Babs Powell, Denise Boyle, Jeanne Buckley and Mary Lindsay.

Arma Beauchamp, Fran Ice, Ruth Baker and Marilee Leonard prepared a great luncheon for all our enjoyment, featuring Arma's famous chicken salad. A short meeting followed the luncheon, headed by our President, Freida Martin. What a great start to our new season!
