• GED prep starts now

Central Florida Community College encourages adults who would like to earn a GED to prepare now.

Before beginning the General Education Development Test program, students must complete the 12-hour introduction to adult education course, which helps them identify strengths and set educational goals. All adult education programs are free.

The introduction course is being offered this fall in preparation for GED programs in the spring. The course will be offered Mondays through Wednesdays, Nov. 2-4, Nov. 23-25, and Jan. 4-6 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Evening sessions will be offered Mondays through Wednesdays, Oct. 26-28 and Nov. 30-Dec 2, from 4-9 p.m. Students need only attend one three-day course.

The GED classes, which begin in the spring, are offered mornings, afternoons, evenings and online. Classes are open to those 16 and older who are not enrolled in any other school and do not have a high school diploma.

For more information, call Susan Harrington, retention, recruitment, and transition specialist for the adult education program, at (352) 493-9533.

• New watercolor techniques workshop at CFCC Levy Center

Art students will want to attend the new Watercolor Technique Workshop that will be offered at the Central Florida Community College Levy Center on Friday, Nov. 6, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Presented by Citrus County equine artist Debra Oliver, this workshop will explore the basics of using water media — from selecting paper and brushes to practicing different techniques for paint application, creating texture and making corrections. Students will practice techniques along with the instructor; they will not work on an actual painting.  The course fee is $45 and students should bring a pad of 140-pound watercolor paper and their own supplies. This class is designed for students who are new to working with watercolors and for those seeking to refresh their skills.

Enroll in person at the Levy Center, 114 Rodgers Blvd., Chiefland, by telephone at (352) 493-9533 or online at www.CFCCtraining.com (select Levy noncredit classes). Deadline for enrollment is Monday, Nov. 2.

• Fundamentals of MS Office 2007 at CFCC Levy Center

Students must have basic computer knowledge and keyboarding skills in order to enroll. The course fee is $69 and the textbook is sold separately.

This course qualifies for Technical Business CPE credit for Florida CPAs. Written proof of attendance will be supplied.
