n Creative writing workshop
   The College of Central Florida will offer a Creative Writing Workshop on Thursdays, Oct. 13 through Nov. 3, from 2 to 4:30 p.m. at the Levy Center, 114 Rodgers Blvd., Chiefland.
   This workshop, taught by Warren Parkin, is designed for writers who are interested in learning more about literary techniques. Students will read their own original work in class and have it critiqued by peers. Experienced writers who desire input on improving the literary, stylistic and tonal quality of a work in progress will also benefit from this workshop.
   The course fee is $75. The deadline to enroll is Thursday, Oct. 6. You may enroll online at CFItraining.cf.edu (select Levy noncredit classes) or in person at the Levy Center. For more information call 352-493-9533.

n EMT information sessions
   The College of Central Florida will hold information sessions for the Emergency Medical Technician program offered at the Levy Center in Chiefland.
  Sessions will be held from 5 to 6 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 19; Tuesday, Nov. 8; and Wednesday, Nov. 30, in the community room at the Levy Center, 114 Rodgers Blvd.
  The EMT program is a semester-long course that prepares individuals to provide pre-hospital emergency medical services. Areas of instruction include patient assessment and care of injured or ill patients. The information sessions will provide details about the application process, deadlines to apply, required testing, program cost and more.
 The information sessions will include a tour of the CF EMS Mobile SAVE lab — Simulation And Virtual Experience — and a preview of the EMS simulation mannequin, which provides realistic training opportunities for students. The EMS program was named best in the state for 2011.

n Excel 2010 training
 The College of Central Florida Levy Center will offer Microsoft Excel 2010 for beginners Oct. 25-Nov. 15. The class will meet on Tuesdays from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Levy Center. The course fee of $139 includes the textbook.
 This introductory training will cover the ribbon interface; entering and editing data; selecting cells and ranges; printing worksheets, creating formulas and functions, formatting worksheets; formatting cell content; inserting and deleting columns, rows and cells; charts and more.
