n Financial workshops meet in October
   The College of Central Florida Levy Center will offer Financial Focus Workshops, providing answers to common questions about personal finance.
   The workshops will be held Mondays, Oct. 3 through 31, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Levy Center, 114 Rodgers Blvd. in Chiefland. The registration fee is $15 and includes all five sessions.
   Discussions will include: Foundations of Investing, Finding Balance in Your Budget, Making Sense of Retirement and Tax-Free Investing. Students will learn key features of bonds, stocks and mutual funds; steps to prepare for retirement; how insurance can help protect against unexpected life events; and much more. The instructor is Sheila Smith.

n Learn digital photography

   A Basic Digital Photography class with instructor Bill Kilborn on Tuesdays, Sept. 27 through Oct. 11, from 6 to 9 p.m. at College of Central Florida's Levy Center.
   The course will cover basic operation of a digital camera and concepts of good photography and photo editing. Students will learn about focus, depth of field, composition, resolution and lighting. They will also learn how to transfer pictures from the camera to a computer in order to perform basic photo editing using software such as Adobe Photoshop Elements. The course fee is $79.
   Students should have basic computer knowledge and should bring camera, camera manual, cables and a USB flash drive to class.

n CNA refresher course
   A refresher course for Certified Nursing Assistants begins Monday, Oct. 3. This 16-hour program is intended for nonpracticing Certified Nursing Assistants who would like to re-enter the field and CNAs who have allowed their license to lapse and need to retake the state licensure exam.
   The class will meet Monday through Thursday, Oct. 3 to 6, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. The course fee is $149 and no textbook is required.
   The course consists of a pre-assessment testing and review of theory as well as a thorough review and practice of the core CNA skills. This course cannot be taken as a substitute for a regular CNA course and it is not an exam prep course.
   The deadline for enrollment is Monday, Sept. 26.
n Ceramics course with master sculptor
   Master sculptor and art instructor Henry K. Gernhardt will teach Introduction to Ceramics on Tuesdays, Oct. 4 through Nov. 8, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Cedar Key Art Center, 457 Second St., Cedar Key.
   The course, being offered by College of Central Florida's Levy Center, has a $195 fee and includes all materials except the clay, which will be available for purchase in class. Students should bring four 13-gallon trash bags and a sponge to class. Space is limited.
   The course will include the basic techniques of ceramics — hand-building, surface decoration and glaze. Students will have their work glazed and fired during the class. No previous experience is required.
Deadline for enrollment is Tuesday, Sept. 27.
