Civil Deputy Charles W. “Bubba” Castell, second from right, has been chosen the Law Enforcement Officer of the Year 2012 by the Disabled Veterans of America Tri-County Chapter No. 63 in Chiefland.
He was presented the award during Tuesday's Levy County Commission meeting. Pictured, from left, are DAV Finance Officer Ivan Chubb, DAV Commander Fred Heinrich, Castell and Levy County Sheriff Bobby McCallum.
Castell is often the first person visitors to the Levy County Courthouse meet as he operates the security station at the entrance. The citation notes that Castell “Is an outstanding example of leadership and an unblemished public servant … has trained many officers and is valued by the public as one that will always help you in your need and a good Christian.”
Castell is a military veteran, a former Cedar Key Police Chief and a resident of Cedar Key. His great nephew Ryan Bell is commission chair and was presiding during Tuesday's award presentation.
