Five candidates will be running for two seats on the Chiefland City Commission this year.

Seats for groups 1, 3 and 5 are up, though current Commissioner Rollin Hudson, group 3, was unopposed and will automatically resume office.

Incumbent Commissioner Frank Buie will be running against John Chris Jones.

Former Chiefland mayor Betty Walker, Kathy Green Hudson and Martin W. Reid will be running for the group 5 seat, which has been held by Commissioner Sammy Cason for the last several years.

Cason will not be running due to health related issues, he said last week.

The election will take place at City Hall Aug. 6, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Levy County Judge James T. Browning, Chiefland Police Chief Robert Douglas and Chiefland Fire Rescue Chief James Harris will comprise this year's election canvassing board.

Editor's note: Candidates wishing to have their announcements run in the Chiefland Citizen must have them in by 5 p.m. tomorrow. Announcements will run in next week's edition.
