Cable provider chased out of Bronson

-A A +A
By Mark Scohier, Staff writer

Bronson officials voted unanimously to give the town's cable provider the boot Tuesday night after a 30-minute speaker phone conversation with a representative from the company during a Town Council meeting.

"I just don't understand why we're placating this guy," Council member Berlon Weeks said about Florida Cable representative  John Russo shortly before the phone conversation began. "We should just run him out of town."

"If he thinks he can persuade you ..." said Town Attorney Steven Warm, " ... let him take the opportunity."

But Russo failed to convince council members, and part of the vote to give Florida Cable the axe also included threatening to place a lien on the company's equipment if its owners fail to cough up $2,700 in rental fees town officials say is owed to Bronson.

Town officials also claim that the cable provider owes Bronson franchise fees and that the company is not registered with the state.
