CROSS CITY - The Chiefland Area Athletic Association's Senior Indian football team is the Suwannee Valley League playoff champion.
The Chiefland boys ages 10-12 marched on to another victory last Saturday night, crushing the Dixie Bears, 38-0, at Bruce Boyette Stadium on the campus of Dixie County High.
Dave Weatherford's team improved its record to 8-0 on the season.
This was the second time the Senior Indians defeated the Bears this season.
Alphonso Timmons scored the first two Chiefland touchdowns - one on a run and another on a perfectly executed screen pass from Shaquille Patterson.
Hamp Cheevers also scored a touchdown in the second quarter. Chiefland led 20-0 at halftime.
Patterson, Cole Parks and Jarquez Williams scored TDs in the second half.
The Senior Indians' season will continue with an appearance in the Lake City Invitational. The first game will be Nov. 10. If Chiefland wins, it will return for the next round Nov. 17.
DIXIE JUNIOR BEARS 14, JUNIOR INDIANS 6 - Dixie made it two in a row against Randy Fuller's team this year with this intense victory in front of a frenzy crowd Saturday night at Bruce Boyette Stadium at Dixie County High.
This time, the league playoff title was at stake.
Dixie took the opening kickoff and drove for a touchdown. The attempt at a two point kick failed.
Chiefland threatened just before halftime when Randy Fuller Jr. broke loose for a 60 yard run before being tackled at the 5-yard line.
Three running attempts set up a fourth and goal at the 1-yard line. The Dixie County defense held, but the Indian defense forced a fumble and recovered in the end zone to make it 6-6. A failed extra point run left the score 6-6 at the half.
It stayed that way until late in the game when Dixie scored the winning touchdown on a long pass play. The two-point kick was good.
The Junior Indians finish the season with a record of 5-3.
