The office of Florida Fire Marshal Alex Sink investigated a blaze that destroyed two sports utility vehicles and damaged two other vehicles in front of Manatee Springs Apartments in Chiefland on Dec. 12, according to records.
Lt. Robby Stephens of the Jacksonville office of the State Fire Marshal said Det. Matt Legler believes the fire started in a 1995 Chevy Tahoe as the result of faulty wiring. There were several electrical components installed by the owner, Stephens said. Do-it-yourself electric wiring in vehicles can present problems.
