Bull rider Chad Smith, who was injured during a ride in Kissemmee on Feb. 22, will be the beneficiary of the Chad Smith Benefit Bull Riding event on Friday and Saturday, Aug. 22-23, at Carter's Arena south of Chiefland. Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and the action begins at 7:30 p.m.

The event is organized by Renegade Rodeo, a sanctioned organization. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students and children under 5 years old admitted free.

Smith is in good spirits and breathing on his own was wearing a helmet on that fateful ride when he was snatched down and hit head-to-head with the bull. The tremendous amount of pressure on his spinal cord resulted in a loss of feeling from the neck down. Smith has regained some feeling in his upper torso and upper arms, but he will need more therapy to regain more feeling.

Sponsorship opportunities are available through Wednesday, Aug. 20:

• Chute gate sponsorship is $350

• Arena signs are $250 each

• A business card size ad is $25.

Donations can also be made at the rodeo. Please make checks payable to Chad Smith Benefit at 6850 N.W. 60th St., Chiefland, FL 32626.
