A “Service to Remember A Man Of Great Honor” for Chiefland City Commissioner Frank Jessup Buie, 86, will be Saturday, Aug. 15, at 2 p.m. at The Lighthouse Word Church, 2450 N.W. Highway 27A, Chiefland.
Interment will follow in the Mount Olive Cemetery. The commissioner died Aug. 5 after a long illness.
Visitation and viewing will be Friday, Aug. 16, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church, 310 S.W. 5th St., Chiefland.
He was first elected to the City Commission in 2007. A leader in his community, he was a veteran of World War II, vice president of the Chiefland Men’s Club, and an active member and deacon at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church.
He was a father to David Jones, and Beverly Buie both of Orlando and those he raised as his own, Mary Bowers of Chiefland and Franklin Shuler (Shirley) of Bronson; a brother to Caretha Nelson and Eddie Jean Williams and Leon Buie (Betty) all of Chiefland, Ellic Buie (Ruby) of Winter Haven and Will Buie (Joyce) of Gainesville. He had four sisters-in-law, Ollie Mae Buie, Margaret Buie, Joyce Buie and Ida Goldwire; four godchildren; Richard A. Williams, Patricia Thomas, Melvina Williams, and Tammy Mooney.
