There were 30 boats entered in the Chiefland Rotary Club’s 10th Annual Fishing Tournament held Saturday, May 24, in Cedar Key. Fishermen had an almost perfect day for landing redfish and trout and the fish cooperated.

The overall winner with the heaviest bag at 21.57 pounds was the boat entered by Nick Brown. Brown also had the biggest trout at 6.05 pounds and the redfish with the most spots — 11. Brown was a winner at the 2013 tournament.

This year the Rotary invited the Florida Fish and Wildlife Commission officers to inspect boats prior to launch and to be present at the weigh-in, bringing a measure of safety and integrity to the annual event. Officer Robert Johnson said every boat checked at launch had all the required safety equipment. “Everyone was good to go,” Johnson said.

The results:

Bag — 1st, Nick Brown 21.57 lbs.; 2nd, Collin English, 21.45; 3rd, Elizabeth Gerlach, 19.83;

Biggst Redfish — 1st, Tony Weeks, 7.79; 2nd, Stan Brois, 7.73; 3rd, Keven English, 7.55.
