No equipment is missing from the Bronson Youth League, according to organization representative Mike Hanna. An unidentified audience member from a Bronson Council meeting on April 16 said she saw items with the B.Y.L label at Play it Again Sports, a used sporting goods franchise. Hanna said he went to both the Gainesville and Ocala locations and didn’t find anything from the league.
An investigation by The Chiefland Citizen into the Gainesville location provided similar results.
Gainesville Play it Again Sports senior manager Craig Carpenter said he hadn’t seen anything with any B.Y.L markings. He said state law only mandates a background check for golf and biking equipment. The company’s policy is to get a name and phone number on all individuals selling equipment but nothing more. “We don’t usually accuse people of stealing,” Carpenter said.
