A Bronson woman was critically injured when the tires on the left side of the pickup she was driving southbound on US 27A/State Road 500 went off the road into the median causing it to spin and later roll over, ejecting the driver, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report.

Cathy Ann Speer, 16, was not wearing a seatbelt when the 1993 Ford Ranger went into the median and she lost control. The pickup rotated first in a clockwise direction, then reversed direction when it veered onto the highway again. It went back onto the median and rolled over three times before ejecting the driver and coming to rest in the median.

Speer was transported to Shands Hospital at UF in Gainesville.

Charges are pending based on the outcome of the investigation by FHP Trooper Glen Ganus.
