The folks at Bronson Motor Speedway were all revved up about opening night last week.

Then came a cold and blustery day Saturday. So much for a warm, balmy opening night.

At least the wind died down by sunset, and most of the fans came well-prepared –with jackets, blankets, gloves, the whole nine yards.

Early Sunday morning, there was frost in the Levy County area.

While the weather did hold down the crowd some, track officials were pleased by the car count and attendence.

"I was surprised," said Jane Cope, wife of track owner Mike, who works the pit gate. "There's a lot of true, die-hard fans who were ready to go back racing."

Track manager Tommy Dunford was pleased with 48 cars covering three divisions.

"The car count was good,"he said. "I though the crowd wa good, considering the weather."

Leah Wilkerson, who works the front ticket booth, said the grandstand was between half and three-quarters full.

"I thought it was good despite the cold weather,"said Wilkerson, whose husband used to race at Bronson.
