Bronson hears county on fire department merger

A representative from Levy County Public Safety says Bronson could benefit from merging its fire department with the county's.
In a public safety workshop Monday night in Bronson, county Public Safety Director David Knowles told the Bronson Town Council that merging fire departments would allow more firefighters and other resources to be available during emergencies.
"It's not any kind of a hostile takeover," Knowles told council members. The county is trying to make the best use of limited resources, he said.
"So, it's improving the services all around."
The biggest focus, according to Knowles, is making sure there is adequate coverage throughout the county. Recent mergers include fire departments in Fowlers Bluff, Rosewood and Yankeetown. Larger departments such as in Chiefland and Williston would stay the same, Knowles said.
Dr, Bob Mount, who sits on the Fowlers Bluff Volunteer Fire Department Board, was at Monday night's meeting and said the process of merging was relatively easy.
"Having gone through this, I can tell you it was a very easy process."
