Bronson bar denied extended hours

Dorothy McKenzie, owner of McKenzie's 4 corners in Bronson, cried Monday night as she asked the Bronson Town Council to consider letting her establishment stay open, serving liquor, until 2 a.m.
“I've been there 33 years ..." McKenzie said, holding a petition she said had 220 signatures in favor of her staying open past her now midnight cut off.
“It will save people's lives," she said, explaining that locals, because of the midnight cut off, end up traveling to other bars in towns such as Fanning Springs.
“Like I told you before," Council Member Berlon Weeks said, referring to the last council meeting, "I don't have a problem with it," adding that approval could be conditional upon monitoring of local DUI rates.
"I'm still against it," Mayor Beatrice Roberts said.
Letting the bar serve liquor two more hours could set a precedent, she said, and, more importantly, because many other bars close at midnight, patrons from those bars would be traveling to Bronson.
"There are lots of them that closes at 12 O' Clock," she said.
