Braves, Lady Braves lose to Williston

The Chiefland Middle School boys and girls basketball teams saw their seasons end on Thursday, Jan. 24, as Williston teams left town with SMAC Tournament victories.

The Braves hung in there for a spell, but Williston had a huge second half and rolled to a 60-22 decision.

Chiefland?s final record was 7-9. Coach Andy Kidd was happy considering his team got of to a 2-5 start.

Against Williston, the Braves trailed 27-18 at halftime. The second half was a different story, as Williston outscored the locals 33-4.

"They kept their starters in until the end,"Kidd said.

Deric Allen led Chiefland with six points. Melton Sanders had five points. Dishawn Roland had four points.

The Chiefland Middle Lady Braves dropped a 41-40 heartbreaker to Williston. Angie Wilcox scored with seven seconds left to lift the visitors.

Sade Tutson had a big game for the Lady Braves.

Both teams had won their SMAC Tournament openers agianst Ruth Raines of Cross City.

CHIEFLAND MIDDLE 49, RUTH RAINS 13 – The Braves easily won their SMAC Tournament opener on Tuesday, Jan. 22, over this opponent from Dixie County.

Hermie McClendon led a balanced scoring attack with 10 points. Sanders and Allen had seven apiece. Patterson had five points. Three players –Donald, McClellan and McMahon added four apiece.
