A 6-year-old boy died Thursday morning after an attack by two pit bull dogs at a home in Fanning Springs.
The call that a child was being attacked by one dog came in at about 8:15 a.m. to the Levy County 911 Communications Center. It was also reported that two dogs were involved in the incident.
The Fanning Springs Fire Department, Levy County Department of Public Safety, Levy EMS Medic 2 and Battalion 1, Levy County Sheriff’s Office,the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office, the Medical Examiner’s Office and Levy County Animal Control responded.
An aircraft placed on standby for the patient was cancelled as the child was deceased. No other injuries were reported.
Because the victim advocate for the Sheriff's Office is away at training, the victim advocate from Another Way Nancy Alfonso came out to counsel the the family. A spokesman for the Sheriff's Office said Alfonso did a very good job working with the family.
Animal Control personnel removed multiple dogs from the property for quarantine purposes.
The Dixie County Sheriff's chaplain and a Marion County Debriefing Team were called in to assist the first responders and dispatchers involved.
