Chiefland teacher and coach Mark Lundy won't be terminated this week, after one school board member had serious misgivings about the strength of the evidence against him. At Tuesday's meeting of the Levy County School Board, Superintendent Robert Hastings asked the board to follow up on last session's action of suspending Lundy without pay, pending termination. At the current session, Hastings asked the board to proceed with termination, but Bronson board member Cameron Asbell said he wasn't ready.
"I've reviewed the file and I found several discrepancies - unanswered questions," Asbell said.
"I feel like this matter calls for me to be 100 percent certain, in order for me to be ready to take away someone's career."
Lundy, an ESE (Exceptional Student Education) teacher at Chiefland High School, is accused of falsifying submissions on a credit retrieval program on behalf of a student whom he had been assisting in the program. Credit retrieval is a way for students to complete assignments online, in order to make up credits they lack and get back on track academically.
