Bell seeks re-election to commission

-A A +A

Candidate announcement

Nancy Bell, the incumbent County Commissioner for District 2, has announced her candidacy for re-election as a Democrat in the Nov. 2 general election. Bell has been chair of the Levy County Board of County Commissioners since November 2008 and was re-elected in 2009 and 2010.
In her announcement, Bell said:
I pride myself on my integrity and I strive to always do the right thing when representing the residents of my county. For years, I have voted to keep your taxes low by fighting for fiscal responsibility through prudent spending of your tax dollars.
Levy County budget issues have been one of the most important parts of my job as county commissioner. I bring 30 years experience as an accountant and two degrees, one in business management and another in accounting, to the table. Each year, I spend countless hours analyzing the county budget to ensure financial responsibility for my constituents. I believe that every one of our pennies count.
My many years of service to our county have given me important insight into the needs of the people I represent. As current president of the Chiefland Chamber of Commerce my finger is on the pulse of our local business community and as a current board member of the Withlacoochee Regional Planning Council I am instrumental in shaping the future of the entire region.
Over the past 30 years I have been a school board member, served with the Kiwanis and Lion’s clubs and now hold office as the Chiefland Lion’s Club vice president. I have participated in the Hospice Steering Committee, Central Florida Community College Foundation and current Advisory Committee, Levy County School Foundation, Bronson Recreation Association and LARC. Giving back to Levy County is a very important part of who I am.
Because I believe that my constituents deserve a representative that is educated in all facets of government I enrolled in the Florida Association of Counties, County Commissioner Certification Program where I not only became certified but I went on to achieve an advanced certification. Classes made me proficient in ethics, growth management, economic development and the legislative process, to name just a few.
My family and my church are very important in my life. My parents and siblings live in Levy County, as does my son and his family, and every member of my family in some way gives of themselves to better their communities. My son Roger is a Levy County law enforcement officer, and I am very proud that he has chosen a career that protects our citizens.
I would like to be your choice on election day because I bring experience to the office of county commissioner and I feel this will be invaluable in the trying times we may have ahead of us.
I offer stability and focus, without indecision about where my loyalties lie. I have lived in District 2 for 30 years while serving as your elected official for 12 of those years. I have been a Democrat most of my life but I pride myself on representing the people of Levy County regardless of their party affiliation.
Over the years I have often been the sole vote on important issues that affect you and I have fought hard to give you honest representation.
It would be my honor to represent you, for another term, as your Levy County Commissioner.
