Be what you want, but get an education

-A A +A
By Kellie Parkin

What do a country music singer, a US marshal, a race car driver, a soldier, a firefighter, and a sheriff, have in common? Education. That was the message that high profile professionals conveyed Friday at Bronson Elementary Career Day.

The featured guests were invited after students were surveyed as to what jobs they were most interested in learning about. Six volunteers spent the morning teaching hundreds of third, fourth, and fifth graders about their specialty. Students rotated every 20 minutes to learn about each career. Speakers shared details about their jobs, repeatedly stressing how schooling related to their own career - especially the relevance of the three Rs: reading, writing and arithmetic.

“We’re continuously searching and trying to come up with ways to help children make connections between the reason they’re here at school and the opportunities that it will give them in the future,” said BES Principal Cheryl Beauchamp.
