Baker to run for school board

-A A +A

My name is Avery Baker, and I am campaigning for the School Board of Levy County, District 2 seat.  I have lived in Levy County for over 25 years and I feel I have the appropriate qualities and experience to be an effective school board member and to govern with the best interest of the students and employees of the Levy County schools in mind.
I graduated from Chiefland High School in 1993 and went on to graduate from Santa Fe Community College with an AA degree.  I am the president and owner of Southern Insurance Agency of Chiefland, a company I started from the ground level in 2004. Through hard work, my faith in God and a determination to succeed, I built a business that now supports my family.  I understand what it takes to make business decisions when times are tough and I know when and where to make cuts that are beneficial for all involved. From 2003 to 2010 I had the great opportunity to help with the Levy County School Board enrollment process by assisting employees with their insurance needs during the end of the year enrollments. Through this I gained valuable knowledge on how the board operates and how the benefits are coordinated throughout the school system. Also, by being in the schools I heard the concerns of the employees and I listened to them. I understand the current hardships they are facing and by observing and listening I understand where to start to try and find solutions to the problems they face today.
I have been married to my wife, Kimberly Parnell Baker, the daughter of Mr. Dick Parnell and Mrs. Frances Parnell, for 11 years. God has blessed us with three wonderful children: Kaiden is 10, Adysen is 7 and Karsen is 6. All three attend Chiefland Elementary School.  We love the outdoors and love playing a variety of sports, but most of all we enjoy being a family. I have been a volunteer baseball and football coach in the community for the past 5 five years with the Chiefland Area Athletic Association. We are members of First Baptist Church of Chiefland where I serve as the chairman of the finance committee and also serve on the deacon board.
My wife Kimberly, currently a stay at home mother and school volunteer, has over 12 years’ experience as a middle school teacher. By being the husband of a school teacher and having many family and friends currently employed by the Levy County School system I understand the problems the employees face today. As a parent, I also understand the problems our children face and the frustrations we have as parents trying to help them.  I feel that I have the experience and knowledge to be a successful board member to preserve both the future of our children’s education and the future of the employees of the Levy County Schools. I look forward to getting to know you and your concerns. I can be reached at 352-214-0511 or www.electaverybaker.com.
