UF/IFAS Levy County Extension presents the first in the Homeowner Gardening for Wildlife series – Providing Food for North Florida birds. Fall and winter present opportunity to take up a popular and growing pastime, bird watching. Join other interested area residents, Friday, Oct. 8, from 9 a.m. to noon, at the Levy County Extension office, 625 N. Hathaway Ave., U.S. Highway 27A, Bronson.
Emma Willcox, UF/IFAS Regional Specialized Agent, Wildlife/Natural Resources will discuss attracting birds of North Florida with native plantings and supplemental food sources. Tips on plant selection, based on your landscape, and a tour of the demonstration garden will illustrate an integrated approach to home landscaping that may provide food for birds and other wildlife visitors.
The variety and differences in supplemental (man-made) bird feeds and feeders will also be discussed and advice given on food and feeder preferences of particular birds. The public is invited to take advantage of this free course and demonstration sponsored by Nature Coast Master Gardeners and Southwest Florida Water Management District.
