Ashamed and proud

-A A +A

I am proud of the fifty or sixty people who stayed until 2 a.m. today to object to the Tarmac Mine.

I am ashamed of our our planning commissioners who voted favorably on the project in the face of overwhelming objections.

I am proud to identify the Titan group as the perpetrators of a mining plume generated in South America that covered and killed the Florida Keys underwater in the 80's.

I am ashamed that a project full of negative impacts, including:

1. blowing up the aquifer three times a week for 115 years or " a couple of times a month for 100 years" depending on the version you prefer

2. disposing of one million gallons of industrial waste water into the Wacasassa  Bay preserve, every day

3. destroying 2,700 acres of wetlands

4. launching a loaded truck on the highway every 45 seconds

5. allowing a predictable storm surge to contaminate the aquifer, forever

6. negative job loss

7. negative loss of tax revenues

8. a plan that is contrary to the Levy County Comprehensive Growth Plan, (about 15 different places)

9. "Paper tiger experts" from Tarmac
