Alligator Warrior Festival

A festival and re-enactment celebrating the history of Alligator Warrior, who lead Seminole warriors in the 2nd Seminole War (1835-1842) and of the settlement of Alligator which was renamed Lake City in 1859 will be held Oct. 29-31. The festival is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day at O'Leno State Park, 410 S.E. Oleno Park Road, High Springs.

The event includes an early afternoon reenactment of the 2nd Seminole War Battle of San Felasco Hammock which took place near present day Alachua on  Sept. 18, 1836. There will be a drum arbor, dance circle, 19th century music and native American flutes. The festival will feature demonstrators of traditional Indian and pioneer skills, traders of handcrafted and factory items, and food vendors.

Bring a folding chair. State Park entry fees apply: $4 per single occupant vehicle, $5 per vehicle holding two to eight  people; $2 for pedestrians, bicyclists, and additional passengers.
