Al Macri (D-Morriston) will vie against Mike Joyner (R-Morriston) for the County Commission District 3 seat Nov. 6.
In a candidacy announcement, Macri wrote:
“Hello, my name is Al Macri and I am asking for your vote and support as I am running for Levy County Commissioner District 3, which is being vacated by Marsha Drew.
“I am 57 years old and came to Levy County from Palm Beach County in 1981. I live in Morriston with my wife, Etter Brooks Macri, who was born in Montbrook.
“Before coming to Levy County, I owned my own business and worked for a major electronics service company in South Florida. I was a reserve police officer in Broward County for about two years.
“Then I decided to find a place to move, as I had thoroughbred horses so I came to Levy County, outside of Williston and purchased property for a horse farm in 1981. I have since sold it. I still operate my other businesses of electronics service and liquidation business.
“I have served the community in the past as a Williston volunteer firefighter for 14 years. I have been a member of the Williston Jaycees, Williston Chamber of Commerce, Williston Lions Club and a former board member of Wildlife Rescue of Levy County.
“I was appointed to the Levy County Board of Adjustment in 2004 and resigned in 2008 when I ran for Levy County Commission.
“I have served in the Air Force and have an honorable discharge from the Air Force and the Air Force Reserve.
“On a personal level, in my spare time I enjoy the outdoors–fishing, hunting, going to auctions and spending time with family and friends and going to church.
“Over the years in Levy County, I have donated my services and goods to civic groups, churches, schools, fire departments in the Williston, Morriston, Bronson and Trenton area. I received several certificates of appreciation awards from Williston and a community service award from Trenton.
“My goals are to keep taxes down, be prepared to make tough decisions and put a stop to unnecessary spending. I would like to see a more business-like approach taken in county government.
“I am committed to protecting your property rights, to preserving our natural resources and environment and working every day for you, the citizens and taxpayers.
“I will be open for all of your questions, concerns and suggestions.
“Some of my concerns are to improve the county roads, recreation activities for our citizens, make sure our county fire, EMS services, sheriffs and public safety departments have the proper equipment to do their jobs safely.
“I would like to see environmentally clean industry and high tech jobs come to Levy County so we can employ people in this county.
“Over the years serving the public an government agencies and listening to people have brought me to a place where I fee I can be a fair and understanding county commissioner.”
"There will be no promises that I will make but to perform to the best with the budget in hand for you, the Levy County taxpayers and citizens."
