AAA honors Levy students as region's finest

Two Levy County 5th grade students have been chosen among the Top 3 Safety Patrollers of the Year for the Southeastern U.S. More than 2,000 participate in the AAA Safety Patrol Program each year. 

Two local students — one from Cedar Key School and another from Williston Elementary School — were recognized in ceremonies on June 4. The No. 1 safety patroller was from Jacksonville. 

They were required to write an essay and participate in a phone interview by the regional AAA board. 

, Amanda Robinson from Cedar Key was voted 2nd place, and Dnika Appling from Williston Elementary School was chosen as 3rd place. 

Robinson was also recognized at the Elementary Awards Ceremony on Tuesday, June 4th, at Cedar Key School. Dnika was recognized during her 5th grade graduation at Williston Elementary. 

Both patrollers and their schools received plaques sent by John Pecchio, Manager, Traffic Safety, AAA South and presented along with engraved plaques from the Levy County Sheriff's Office by Levy Sheriff Bobby McCallum.
