2 injured in Saturday accident

Two women were injured in an accident shortly before 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 12, on U.S. Highway 19 and Northwest 186th Lane, according to a Florida Highway Patrol report. 

Kathryn E. Boulos of Newberry was traveling southbound on U.S. 19 in a 2001 Ford F-150 pickup when the vehicle veered into path of a 2001 Ford Taurus headed northbound knocking the car into a ditch.

The car was driven by Laura Mott, of Old Town who was airlifted to UF Health Shands Hospital in Gainesville in critical condition. 

A passenger in Boulos' vehicle, Tara Martin, 8, was also transported to Shands with minor injuries. 

The truck's left front struck the left front of the car and continued to travel onto the side of the roadway striking an embankent. 

All three people were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident.

The crash is still being investigated and charges are pending, accordng to the report by Trooper M.A. Kennard.
