Beloved math teacher, college benefactor dead

Jack Wilkinson, 96, of Chiefland, died on September 3, 2009. He was born on August 24, 1913, in Chiefland, to James Thomas “Tom” and Lydia A. Wilkinson.

He was of the Baptist faith and was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He was a graduate of the University of Florida, he taught math in Chiefland, for 45 years, he was a farmer and rancher as well as a timber man; he was an avid Gator fan who was a season ticket holder for many years.

Mr. Wilkinson was a benefactor to Central Florida Community College donating in upwards of $2.5 million, so CFCC will honor him by naming the campus after Mr. Jack.

He is survived by his nieces Judy Perdue Peacock (Gary) and Teresa Wilson (Fred). He was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Lilly Wilkinson and a sister Jewell Wilkinson.

Visitation for Mr. Wilkinson will be Sunday, September 6, 2009 from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Knauff Funeral Home-Chiefland. Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 7, 2009 at 11:00 am at Hardeetown Baptist Church with Pastor Tommy Andrews officiating. Burial is to follow at Ebenezer Cemetery.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers to please make donations to Haven Hospice, 311 N.E. 9th St. Chiefland, FL 32626.

Arrangements are under the care of Knauff Funeral Home-Chiefland.
