This week construction crews on Williston Road (State Road 121), between U.S. 41 in Williston and the Alachua County line, began removing the old asphalt and building up new asphalt on the curves. This will improve drainage and the ability of drivers to maneuver through the curves while still maintaining the speed limit, according to the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT).
Once work is completed at the curves, crews will begin removing the old asphalt and resurfacing the roadway throughout the remainder of the project.
Motorists can expect daytime lane closures with flaggers directing traffic between 8 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Thursdays throughout this process.
An adjacent resurfacing project from the Levy County line to Interstate 75 in Alachua County is underway and may also require lane closures. Motorists should watch for flaggers directing traffic in more than one location throughout the 16 miles between Williston and Interstate 75.
Anderson Columbia Company of Lake City has been hired by the FDOT to complete the Levy County project by early September at a cost of $3.4 million.
